Glad to see you made it here.
This dinner is going to mostly concentrated around the beers and having the customer find their own special combination as to where the beers belong. Feed-back is very important.

To start with, and let me explain, that the beers in below said "tentative" beer list are only ideas which we created, and may not all be available with the dinner. we will have at least 6 beers.

Appetizer--Sliced Rouladen with bacon, onioin, beer gravy

Soup-- Carrot Sausage Soup

Spaten Oktoberfest
Ayinger Oktoberfest

Entree-- Hackbraten (German Meatloaf...freaking awesome)

Well, a blog area I suppose. too bad no one writes on this thing once in a while. But, here I am anyway.
First of all..Bring your homebrew in for the 3rd annual Anchortown Homebrew Competition. It will be open to all catagories.
Judges will be needed, also. Judging will start at 4:30 on Sunday August 15th. Please bring entries to Arctic Brewing Supply on Friday between the hours of 11:30 and 6:00.
Medals and prizes will be handed out at a special ceremony to be announced at a later date.

So, now that I never finished the original blog story from March, I thought I'd move on to another entry I won't be able finish.
We have many new beers coming up the pipe, as we have a warehouse full of different flavors, colors, and aromas. Surprisingly, the Grotten Brown has appeared, which was tucked in the warehouse of one of our purveyors. We had this beer on tap for the better part of 8 years, and now it has all but dissappeared. It is/was no longer being made by Pierre Celis, an icon in the brewing industry. You probably have heard of Celis brewing in Texas, well, he was the mastermind behind that operation and eventually sold and returned to Belgium to produce beer for St. Bernard brewery to where he introduced the cave aged ale, Grotten Brown. Also instrumental in brewing the Flemish Red from St. Bernard Brewing. Perhaps, his most memorable acheivement would have to be the construction of Hoegaareden in the 70's. Wasn't there a book or movie to that name, or more like "Berkeley to Boston Forty Brick Lost Bag Blues"?
Met up with Dr. Fermento and Ms. Fermento in San Francisco for some of the festivities at San Francisco Beer Week. I, to judge at the Toronado Barley Wine Festival, (still unsure why it's called a festival), and Mr & Ms Fermento to visit family and endeavor for new beer adventures.

Without being redundant, I'll leave the details to Fermento's Foamy Rant, and his article in the Anchorage Press. However, on my side of the story, there was a conspiracy to get me from the beginning. "Drown him in beer" was the chant. Starting in San Francisco on 2/11, I was obligated to start the adventure at Tommy's Joynt for my first beer in the City. Big Daddy Double IPA from Speakeasy Brewing was my choice. I then went to Chimay on tap, only because we do not carry it at the restaurant.

Both of the beer tastings went very well. the Extreme Beer tasting was a smashing success. People were still trying to buy tickets, but the place only holds so many. It was very comfortable with only 50. The tables were moved to one side so everyone could mingle. And there was a lot of mingling going on. The beers were phenomenal. Many surprises for many of the the folks. The food never ran out and there were many full bellies by the end of the night. Pairing the food was up to the individual, and there were lots of comments as to what beer paired with which entree. Let me tell you, everyone had their own opinion. Much fun. I am planning another event for sometime in March. Not sure what the menu of beers will be, but I know I'll have to dig deep in my cellar to even come close to the last one.

We still have tickets available for the Alaskan Brewing Smoke out, I mean, tasting. $30 gets you 6 years of smoked porter tastings with some awesome foods to go along with them. Alaskan Brewing representative will be hosting the event and answering any questions you may have. You can pick up tickets, here, at the restaurant or call, and have your credit card ready. We woiuld really like to see you here!!!!

The tasting for the Alaskan Smoked Beer is on. We already have tickets sold. We are only going to have 40 seats. This will be a sit down tasting. The menu is set, and will only have 3 courses. Sean Rodriguez from Alaskan brewing will be doing the commentating. The beers served will be '01, '03, '05, '07, '08, & '09. As of now the menu will be: Various Boar's Head Meats and cheeses for the first three beers....Hunter's Stew with lamb for '07, & '08....Smoked Porter Burnt Cream with Caramel sauce with the '09. I've finally perfected the recipe for the burnt cream. It took a lot of experimenting, (and beer), but I did it.
Tickets are available at the restaurant for $30. If you call for reservations, we will need your credit card number to pay for the seats. Like I said, only 40 seats. First come, first served. the first to pay have the guarenteed seats. Please don't use this blog site as a reservation confirmation, as I sometimes do not get to it in time. The response to the Beer Tasting is great. If you want to join us, call with your credit card number and we can send you the tickets(s) in the mail. Or stop by and you can get your ticket on the spot. Cash or credit card talks. Pay for it now and you are guaranteed a seat. As of right now, 17:00 hours, we have 23 seats to sell in 15 days.
I am having a blast setting this up. I am constantly drooling over these beers like a 13 year old boy looking at a Playboy Magazine. did I mention" In-freaking-credible". And the food buffet is looking great. It's going to cost a bundle for the goodies, but, you know us, we don't care about the cost, as long as everyone has a good time.
